fist pump tuesday
Here’s this week’s pumps!
1. Les Belles Boules — I have been making bread at home every week the past few months and have been trying as many recipes in my baking textbook as I can. Last night, I mixed up a batch of baguette dough and instead of shaping it into those slender, crusty loaves, I left them in the classic boule (ball) shape and just scored the top. They came out deep brown and crusty, which was exciting. Despite my training in class, my homemade bread attempts haven’t always been so pretty. When my bread comes out looking like this, it definitely pumps me up.
2. Holly Holiday Returns! — All right, any fellow GLEEks out there? Gwyneth Paltrow revives her role as substitute teacher Holly Holiday this week and I am definitely all nerded out over it. I’m not normally one who has any clue what is going on in mainstream pop culture, but I can’t help but love this show — it’s incredibly smart, sassy, funny, and an impressively sharp social commentary. (Plus, she’s covering Prince’s “Kiss” this week. C’mon — gonna be sah-weeeeet!)
3. Why Evangelicals Hate Jesus — Granted, this Huffington Post article‘s title is too extreme and is obviously just to catch your attention, but I found the content interesting. A little too harsh, it may be, but the author makes some good points. As Evangelical Christians are easily the most culturally visible section of Christianity in America, it is sad that so many fall so far away from the teachings of Jesus and let the shadow of that hypocrisy fall over so many others who look to learn and follow our Rabbi differently. We all fall short, of course, and no Christian (or person) of any kind ever really gets it all the way right. However, it is worth examining our motives and paths.
