And I’ll say it again and again and again — REJOICE.

November 19, 2008

I missed church last week, because I was in Ohio, so I am listening to Rob’s teaching this morning at work. I’m pretty sure that that man could preach about shoes and potato peels and turn it into something meaningful and interesting — I have never heard a teaching of his that I didn’t like.

He taught this past Sunday on the verse in Phillippians about “Do not be anxious about anything. Be gentle, the Lord is near.” The context he puts it in according to the early church is amazing — I’m going to need to listen to this again when I’m not working and writing things because I’m only hearing half of what he’s saying. And where I am right now in my life, in this murky, mediocre, lukewarm place, I need to hear what he’s saying, because I think it’s really what He’s saying, if you catch me.

“Practice the discipline of becoming aware of all of the gifts that are around you. Everything has to begin with awareness of gift.”

The truth of that hits me like a hammer between the shoulder blades, causing my whole body to cringe and cower, because I know it’s right and true.

More later.

Thanks pumpkin. I decided it was time to be a grown-up, at least in the sense of my written thoughts.

I still keep a handwritten journal too but that feels even more high school — probably even middle school.

    …your leg is nice.
