for mama

May 9, 2010

I’m not much for holidays that demand you appreciate certain people on this certain day — I’m an advocate of appreciating people on all days. However, since today is Mother’s Day and I love my mama, I wanted to let it loose on the internets in case people wanted to know.

I love my mom.

She is one of my best friends and even when we regularly drive each other crazy (mostly because we’re so much alike), there is no one I’d rather have to turn to. She is kind, wise, funny, sweet and incredibly loving (oh yes, and beautiful, too). I spend more time with my mom than a lot of people I know, but it feels only natural to me. I like just sitting around, watching the “Food Network,” cooking, eating, going to Target, meeting at the Farmer’s Market. We are both happy ducks most of the time and it doesn’t take much to entertain. Growing into an adult and being able to be her friend as well as her kid has been instrumental in the relationship we have now. I lucked out in the “mom” department and am blessed every day to be her daughter.

Here she is, in her new favorite position of “Nana.” (You might also catch a sneak peek of my niece Addie’s first two teeth that are just coming in.)

Love you, Mama.
(Your promised chocolate souffle cakes are coming soon.)

Hi Caroline….I say “Amen” to your comments on your Mom and my first born. You both have been a huge joy in my life. On the night you were born I thought that I could lose you both. Through God’s grace and loving provision, our whole family has been blessed with the on-going beautiful story of your lives. I can’t get enough of it!! Love you SO MUCH. Grandma

This is perfect. You had to grow into being her friend…some moms try to be friends when kids are little and don’t need another friend. I bet it is such a reward to transition into that part of your relationship.

    @ Elizabeth!

It is incredibly rewarding. Our relationship has gone through stages, none better or worse than the others (except maybe high school). And I have learned from them all.

But this one? Well…this stage might be my favorite so far.
