cozy + rosie

November 11, 2010

I strung up some Christmas lights last night and instantly, my apartment feels 800% warmer, cozier and makes me so happy I sort of never want to leave. I tried to stave off the “decorating” bug but couldn’t help making a little vase for my kitchen table. I  placed these cute little berry branches I found at Hobby Lobby in an old Mason jar full of dried beans and I have to admit, it’s pretty snappy and cute.

This is truly my favorite season and is made even more so with the potent combination of twinkling lights, red wine and Rosie Thomas’ Christmas album. There is something so unearthly beautiful about it that it’s a shame it’s only acceptable to listen to it for one month a year. Phoo on that, I say. I’ve been cranking it up for two days and it makes me happier and happier.

I’ve even been listening to some Christmas episodes of Nigella’s Kitchen as I worked this week and MAN, does my holiday mood (and hunger) keep growing and growing. I think I’m kicking things off with some mulled wine this weekend and I can thank Nigella for the inspiration.

For now, it’s back to practicing challah braiding with scarves. (I accidentally overslept and missed my bakery class yesterday and my group made that luscious, eggy, braided bread without me. Nuts.)

P.S. Dig on my new header! I wanted to start using more photos I took myself on the site…well, except the one of me taking photos. My friend Lori took that one when we were camping. 🙂

Rosie Thomas has a Christmas album? This is good news! I’m not ready to break out all things Christmas quite yet but I’m nearly done Christmas shopping, which makes me feel festive indeed.

    @ Leigh!

Oh yes, oh yes she does. And it’s faaaaabulous. I can’t believe you’re doing shopping. I’m one of those “everything homemade” gift givers, which this year means food for one and all. Homemade cocoa mix, homemade marshmallows, jams, chutney, sugared almonds, etc. And of course, I haven’t started any of it. I’m hoping to after next week (i.e. my Thanksgiving break).

Hopefully no one I love is on a diet. 🙂

Well, if it makes you feel better, I haven’t started one of my homemade gifts (mix CD for my closest pals) and I’m way behind on cloth books for two of the babies in my life. The cloth book project I supposedly started last spring. Now I’m just praying I get my act together so I’m not sewing hours before my flight home!

(Whoops — I meant DONE shopping, not DOING shopping. That you are doing shopping is totally believable. That you are DONE doing so ahead of time is straight awesome.)

P.S. Cloth books sound so cute! I would love to see how those turn out.
