This Christmas was a level of relaxed and peaceful that I can’t recall in previous years. No one argued or got all rushed or stressed out because things weren’t going perfectly. (This happens more than we’d like to admit in a family of four control-freak women.)
Instead, we ate huge homemade cinnamon rolls, listened to the radio, enjoyed each others’ company and laughed as my niece sat in awe of her new baby doll, which is easily the size she is. We opened gifts and promptly spent the next hour reading each others’ new cookbooks. (I love being in a foodie family.) We went to see a movie and then snuggled down the rest of the night, with a coffee table full of snacks and a pile of blankets.
So very peaceful.
In all that peace, it struck a chord of extreme laziness in me. As I now have this whole week off from work AND school, I’ve spent a lot of it sleeping and watching movies. Part of me feels guilty but the other part, the bigger part, urges me to enjoy it, as my schedule will speed up again soon enough.
How was your Christmas?
