reflecting on 2010

January 1, 2011

2010 was quite a year for me. It was a tension between change and contentment, adventure and a deep sense of home, looking ahead and enjoying exactly where I am. God slapped me awake in so many ways and has been so utterly faithful in helping see these good things to fruition, if not completion just yet.

I don’t even know how to reflect on it in words properly, so I’ll use my favorite medium: photos.

…I ventured out to the Left Coast and spent a week rediscovering who I am in the company of the ones I love best. It was renewal and perspective at its best.

…I fell even further in love with being an aunt and understanding what it is to be a small piece of forming a baby into a real, little person who walks and talks and has opinions and ideas and favorites. It’s astonishing more and more every day.

…I took the leap, quit my job and began culinary school. Only one semester in, I am utterly in awe of this new part of me, that seems to well up more and more as I learn and inhale and taste and become. I love, I love, I love.

…I bravely self-taught myself the art of making jams and surprisingly (most of all to me) have been blessed enough to actually make some income from this. I am becoming fascinated with the art of preservation and the sense of wholesome accomplishment it brings.

…and I cooked and baked. A lot.

Happy 2011, dears! What are your fondest reflections on 2010?

I love watching the process of the “re-invention” of yourself. It’s almost as exciting for me as it is for you, my dear Caroline…(notice I DID NOT say ‘sweet Caroline’ ?

Great reflection, Caroline. My 2010 was completely defined by moving to Nashville- packing up my life in IL, saying goodbye to friends and family, getting settled, starting a new job, doing life with my best friend again, making new friends, getting involved in a new church. Lots of newness, change, ups and downs. Here’s to all that 2011 holds!
