hello, petal

April 7, 2011

Tonight, as I arrived home from work, I was dazzled to see these two lovely ladies lounging in the front garden.

The first flowers of spring! Real, live flowers — bold, determined, wiggling up through a whole two seasons’ worth of matted leaves and sticks. Combined with the almost warm weather on my walk home, it was enough to make me grab my camera, squeal and jump up and down a little.

Is spring springing where you are? What’s your favorite part?

Man, it is most DEFINITELY ‘springing’ here! I think my favorite part is the crestfallen despair readily apparent on the face of all the aging, worn out hipsters. No doubt they are anxious and worried as the weather begins to challenge their collective ‘need’ for coats and other assorted outerwear. The truth of which is that these aforementioned articles of clothing have also been covering their bulging guts for the last two season and, at the same time, bolstering their egos. HA hahahahahaha! Quiver and tremble hipsters! Your feeble charade has been slain by fair Sister Spring!

oh yay! Our crocuses have already sprung and gone away. The daffodils are up, and barely survived the spring snow we had last week. So I’m glad there are still flowers in my garden at all!

Dustin: you are witty and wonderful and dead on. oh and hilarious. oh and attractive. Damn! What a catch.
Caroline: I miss you more every time I see a bright little orange california poppy peeking out from behind blades of green grass. They are everywhere now, and I love them like I love you. With fiery passion.

dear friend in a far & distant land,

It’s strange, and I don’t mean to make you jealous or anything, but we here in Ukraine are several degrees north of you, and our croci have done been gone. We’re now rejoicing in peach blossoms, daffodils, hyacinths, and violets. But I still of course remember the joy of that first crocus … and I celebrate with you!
I think my favorite thing about spring is that it comes after winter. I forget that the world can be beautiful again until that first green thing opens up and reminds me that cold is just a season.
May many more flowers smile up at you!
